From physical to digital communication
Since the end of the 20th century, physical written communications such as letters, policies, invoices and contracts have increasingly been replaced by digital versions. Digital documents obviously cannot be signed with a pen. That is only possible indirectly: print the digital document, sign it with a pen and then 'digitise' it again by scanning it. The person in question often finds that a nuisance.
Today there are options for digital signing and sealing, which give digital communications a degree of legal validity too. There are 3 levels, which we won't go into further in this article: SES (simple), AES (advanced) and QES (qualified). The EU drew up the eIDAS regulation for this, which gives direction on how to set up secure and reliable communication.
For a health insurance policy, for example, (digital) sealing is a legal obligation.
CCM in the Cloud and the digital sealing of communications
Within "CCM in the Cloud" we process large numbers of digital documents that are made available to the recipient in all sorts of ways. Some of these documents have content for which you, as an organisation, want to supply proof that the content is authentic and has not been tampered with. In other words, you want to 'digitally seal' it (also called e-sealing). If a document is changed after e-sealing, the digital seal becomes invalid and the document can no longer be trusted. This check is carried out every time the document, for example a PDF, is opened.

The seal also shows which authority or person signed the document and, for example, whether it carries a timestamp.
By integrating "CCM in the Cloud (now: CustomerConnect)" with services that make signing and e-sealing possible, we give our clients the option to process digital output, provide it with a legally valid certificate and send it.
It is important to mention that, even though "CCM in the Cloud" uses e-seal services from our specialised partners, privacy-sensitive data is never exchanged with those partners. The digital document never leaves the secure "CCM in the Cloud" environment.
